I did not come to know Christ until I was 24 years old. I was a very strong headed atheist throughout my adolescence and through college. When Tiffany and I started dating she insisted that we go to church and after visiting countless churches, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior in August 2014. Since that day my life has not been the same. Shortly after being saved I felt God’s call to ministry and began taking seminary classes at Liberty University. I graduated from Liberty University in August 2017. During my time at Cypress Creek Baptist Church, I have had the honor of teaching Children’s Sunday School, Adult Sunday School, Young Adult Bible Study, and serving as the Youth Pastor. In March 2017, my life was completely changed as God called me to the missions field and I surrendered to that calling with my wife.
I grew up in a Christian household. At the age of 7, I came to know Christ as my Lord and Savior. Not long after being saved and baptized, my family relocated and we did not find another home church. It was because of this that I was not properly discipled. By the time I was a teenager I was not living the way I knew God would want me to. In 2014, Javier and I joined Cypress Creek Baptist Church and I rededicated my life to God. It was through this that I vowed to live the life I knew God wanted for me. Since then I have been able to serve God in a variety of ministries and it was through all of this experience that God laid foreign missions on my heart.
Serving Christ Together
We joined as members of Cypress Creek Baptist Church in September 2014. Since then, our spiritual growth and responsibilities at the church have grown immensely. We started off working the nursery but as time progressed we began to take on larger roles. This includes teaching Sunday School and Children's Church, managing the church website, videography, and overseeing our Youth Department. In all of this experience we knew that God was calling us to take a bigger step of faith. In March 2017, we joined our church on a missions trip to Honduras. It was on this trip that God broke our hearts to foreign missions, and we surrendered to this calling. We had the blessing of serving our missions internship at Cypress Creek Baptist Church. It was during our missions internship that God laid the people of Scotland on our hearts.
Religion in Scotland
3% Evangelical Christian
Scotland is known as “the most beautiful country in the world.” It is known for lush green landscapes, historic architecture, and the friendly Scottish people. Scotland was once known as the epicenter of the Protestant Reformation. In fact, historically Scotland has been known as “The Land of the Book” because of its rich Christian heritage. However, over the years this has all changed. There are an abundance of beautiful church buildings in Scotland but the majority of these churches are closed. These churches are often turned into night clubs, pubs, and even casinos. In the 2011 census, 57% of the Scottish population claimed no religious affiliation. By 2016, this number had risen to 72%. Scotland is a country of about 5.3 million people but only 3% of the population claim to be Evangelical Christians. It is clear that there is much work to be done in Scotland, but we believe that God's Light shines brightest in the midst of darkness.
North Berwick, Scotland
North Berwick is a community of just over 6,000 people about 30 minutes from Edinburgh. As land becomes more expensive in the city, many people are moving out to the suburbs. The population of North Berwick has been exploding over the past few years. Almost thirty years ago BBFI Missionaries Dan and Jackie McCaskill planted the only Baptist Church in North Berwick. With the population exploding in North Berwick and the work that has been started by the McCaskill family, there is a unique opportunity to raise up the next generation of believers in North Berwick.
